We all know the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, the cold-hearted, tight fisted, greedy man, who despises the festive season which is fast approaching - and without turning into a modern day Scrooge, one does have some sympathy with him (whilst wondering how he'd cope in society today!)
We are only in the first few days of November, the nights are darker, the weather is colder (and so-far, especially for those in Scotland, wetter) and we are getting "C" rammed down our throats.
Up-and-down the country, councils have put their "C" lights up, ready for the big switch on (and to prove I'm not the modern day Scrooge - I'm going to Birmingham's light switch on, on 14 November!) whilst all forms of media, from newspaper adverts, radio adverts and especially TV adverts have been plagued with ideas for "C" gifts, food to eat during the festive season - basically anything and everything to do with the festive season is being rammed down our throats by the media.
By the time the day arrives, I have a feeling that myself (along with others) will be sick to the back teeth of it.
They haven't even shown the best "C" advert yet - perhaps, one I've seen that, I'll feel more Christmasy.
Is there really any need for the over-kill which surround "the day"? It's almost as if, as a nation we've forgotten the true meaning of "C" and only understand the commercialisation of it.
And if by magic, as I come to the end of this 'rant' adverts for "the day" are on the TV screen.
Ah Bah'humbug!

Heck, I wish the days grew colder here, the days just get unbearable, hotter.
The thing that annoys me most this time of year is how some stores seem to slowly rise their prices, cent by cent, then a few weeks before christmas they'll lower that price and call it a special.
Oh and the christmasty jingles and tunes. I am very, very thankful I am not stuck in a job where I would have to listen to Jinglebell rock some umpteen times a day.
Although I am not an overly big fan of the sport industry I do like your style of writing.
Money, money, money. "Its the most wonderful time of the year"...to make a buck. At least it's (temporarily) good for the economy. Maybe we should have C year-round.
By the way, I thought the new Christmas Carol movie was pretty good and recommend it...
